Christmas is still going strong in Indonesia (at least until January 31!) but this photograph is actually from Christmas day. We went out into the village to share Christmas with some new friends. This meal was the breakfast provided for us by the church leaders.
Pictured are Rice (nasi), Noodles (mei), Cucumbers, Fried Chicken, Various soups (some with chicken, some with pork), and a few other types of vegetables. About 15 of us gathered around the carpet on the floor for breakfast this particular day.
We have found there are not many non-western countries that have special "breakfast foods". When staying at hotels, breakfast is almost always rice, noodle, and vegetable dishes with a pot of porridge on the side (but this is intended to be mixed with fish and chicken... not a traditionally breakfast tasting dish where we come from... and then, for some reason, they may have a small table with some stale mini doughnuts with waxy icing or cakes, and there is usually a 'toast' station with some form of jelly.
