So, this was awesome enough, I took photos to show the family... thought I would share with you too. FIRST, I found a store with NORMAL deodorant. This is the ONLY store I have found in Nepal, Thailand, and Indonesia with a good selection of 'cake' deodorants. Usually there are just sprays and sometimes liquid roll-ons. Here, there are a few stores with 'travel size' deodorants from one company in only one scent that seem more like what we would use in the states. So finding this shelf was AMAZING. Now, look at the price. 100,000 Rupiah: That's right, that little piece of US culture is going to cost you $6.06 USD. When you live overseas and miss home, sometimes you splurge and it is totally worth it. Now the question... is THIS your spurge?
Or is THIS your splurge? In a word with four cereal choices, (different chocolate shapes, honey-cardboard, fruit hoops, and frosted flakes....) this is a goldmine. The fruit hoops are better than actual fruit loops here... which taste salty for some reason? And the chocolate shapes consist of 4-5 types of cereal.. but they are all the exact same with different shapes...
But it turns out Lucky Charms are a REAL goldmine in Indonesia... these, too, have had 100% import tax applied and the cost is around $7.57 USD. Perhaps this will be your splurge? It is 3x the cost of regular cereal here... And just for information - cereal here is SOOO far out of most people's price range - mainly people from other countries buy and eat it.
On this particular day, we didn't splurge on either of these... Lorelei found an apple from the USA, and wanted a 'taste from home'... and a few other little things. But its nice to know they are here if we want them... (of course, this is Indonesia, and we could never see these things again... ) One friend told us.... if you see it, and want it... you better go ahead and get it. We have been here 5 months and already found this to be true.
