This is a 'clay pot' water filter being produced by some friends here. I actually saw this in the house of my dentist (because I go to my dentist's house for treatment)....
This is similar to what we thought we would be selling/distributing in India... and there is still a possibility of doing some work with this in Pontianak... We brush our teeth here with the tap water, but it is not recommended to drink it. Clean water is still a real problem in Indonesia.
The village next door to our neighborhood has a 'communal' bathroom/washroom (common in Indonesia) and when we went for the Independence Day celebration, throughout the day, people were walking with bags to the bathroom because to accommodate everyone in the village, there is a scheduled time to shower throughout the day (again common in Indonesia)
Next door to the school we are going to be teaching at in Pontianak, the housing areas have a putrid river of water running under and around the houses (the houses are built up on stilts) and we were told they wash their bodies, teeth, and cook with this water. One of our proposed goals is to take the students at the school and have them go through the villages around them and distribute water filters and explain how to use them. This should provide opportunities to story about living water as well.
Below the clay filter is a plastic bucket with a dispenser nozzle. The newspaper is for packing/transit only!
