I think I've shared before about poverty in our country. The poverty line is $25 a month here. The crazy thing is.... if you make $30 a month, you are above the poverty line.
Check out these homes right next door to the school where I'll be teaching. These people swim, toilet, brush their teeth, and bathe in this water that runs beside, below, and around their homes.
Our friends in this city are helping, trying to provide clean water.. but even the ideas of "germs" doesn't compute to most indonesians. Their diarrhea is obviously caused by "masuk angin" or 'air entering their body'.... and everyone has diarrhea. Why would water filters help prevent air entering their body, since this is obviously the cause of their illness.
Even trying to educate people to be healthy here is difficult.
